Meet the author
Born from Jamaican parents, the Brooklyn born, Far Rockaway Queens raised Street General ShaKim Bio is a powerful literary force and cultural commentator whose voice reaches far beyond the concrete and steel that surround him. Featured in conversations with innovators, writers, artists, and visionaries, both inside and outside the system, he represents what it means to turn hardship into purpose, transforming lived experience into storytelling that teaches, prevents, and uplifts.
A screenwriter, novelist, and publisher, ShaKim Bio has carved out a respected presence in underground literature and prison journalism. As co-owner of Mikahs 7 Publishings (est. 2010) and Kingpin 2 Inkpen Publishings LLC, he champions other writers while using his creative platforms to reach young people standing at the crossroads he once faced himself.
He has contributed sharp, experience-rooted commentary to publications including Urban X Porsure and Trap Door Magazine, and has appeared in numerous podcasts, offering clear insight into culture, decision-making, and the forces that pull youth toward the streets.
As a novelist, ShaKim Bio has authored three staple works of urban nonfiction:
Since 2012, he has written the monthly S.H.A.K.I.M.’s HOOD column on GorillaConvict.com, delivering raw, unfiltered narratives about prison life, “politricks,” survival, humor, and the hidden consequences of split-second decisions. He also serves as a writer for Crime Talk Magazine, where he explores issues surrounding crime, justice, incarceration, and culture through the lens of lived experience. His motivation is not just to tell stories—it is to stop someone else from repeating them.
At the heart of ShaKim Bio’s work is a deep commitment to making sure young people don’t go down the wrong path. He writes screenplays, dramatic lessons, and decision-making curriculum for at-risk youth programs such as Wheelchairs Against Guns (WAG) and King of Kings Foundation Inc. His message is consistent and urgent: Learn from his journey so you don’t have to live it.
Continuing to expand his creative universe, ShaKim Bio has developed multiple drama series and screenplays, with his first film, Slave to My RhymeBook, entering production in 2026.
A storyteller, a visionary, and a mentor through the written word, ShaKim Bio channels every lesson, mistake, and revelation into work designed to educate, redirect, and inspire. His mission is bigger than literature, it’s about giving the next generation the wisdom and warning signs needed to choose a different road.
